How to find trending hashtags for your niche
Research and select hashtags that boost discovery on Instagram, TikTok, and X without triggering spam filters.
Hashtags drive discovery on Instagram, TikTok, and X — but only when they're genuinely relevant to your content and not stuffed into every caption. This guide walks through finding hashtags that work, then organising them into reusable sets.
Prerequisites
- • A Webanto Social Media Management subscription
Steps
- 1
Define your niche keywords
Before searching, list 5-10 keywords that describe your business and content (e.g. 'sustainable fashion', 'cold brew coffee', 'small business marketing'). These anchor your hashtag research.
- 2
Open the hashtag research tool
In Webanto > Social > Hashtags > Research, enter your first keyword. The tool returns related hashtags ranked by recent activity (posts per day) and competition (estimated reach difficulty).
- 3
Filter by activity level
Avoid hashtags with under 1,000 total posts (too small to drive discovery) or over 5 million (so saturated your post will never surface). The sweet spot for most niches is 10,000-500,000 total posts.
- 4
Build sets of 5-15 hashtags
Create a 'set' for each content theme you publish about — branded, product-specific, niche-community, broad-discovery. Each set should have 5-15 hashtags. Avoid stuffing 30 hashtags into every post; modern platforms penalise this.
- 5
Save sets for one-click insertion
In the composer, you can insert a hashtag set with one click. This keeps your hashtag usage consistent across posts without copy-pasting.
- 6
Track per-hashtag performance
After 30 days of posting, check Webanto > Social > Analytics > Hashtags. Identify which hashtags drove the most impressions and engagement for your posts. Drop low-performing tags from your sets.
- 7
Refresh sets monthly
Hashtag trends shift. Re-run the research for your top 3 themes each month, add new high-performers, drop tags that have lost steam or become saturated.
